What dispenses enthusiasm and motivation, in you!?

In last few months, the thought of accomplishing my non-materialistic goals or rather desires has crossed my mind several times; quarter-life crisis might be one of the reasons! (just might be)

Writing blogs is one of these desires. And the reason for this – I am more expressive when I bring my thoughts on paper (or laptop screen these days)!

Thus, during one of those moments of solitude – when I analyze myself, when I remind myself about what is still left, do I have any regrets, am I ALIVE or has it become all mechanical; I made this account on WordPress, just to take that first step, having no idea what my first blog would be about and will there be any posts here, at all. But, I had to..just had to sign up that day. And since then, it has been constantly on my mind, what should I write about, what can be the best way, as we all crave for perfection, to start this ‘journey of being me’!

“You gotta dream, you gotta protect it. If you want something, go get it. Period.”

 – Will Smith in Pursuit of Happyness

One morning while getting ready for my office, I saw my ‘white little diary’ in the drawer and Eureka!! At that very moment I knew, what I shall be writing about.

I have always enjoyed philosophy. Words of wisdom/inspiration or motivational sayings coming from fictional characters, great personalities, poems, movies or songs, have always intrigued me. Thus, 4-5 years back, I started to note down these quotes/sayings/movie dialogues/ song lyrics, whenever I came across them, in my ‘white little diary’. Little did I know at that point in time, that this diary would soon be my companion, my confidante, my morale booster!

I am not one of those who call their friends in mid of the night and say ‘I am not feeling good today’ or ‘I am not happy’ or ‘I am feeling very low’. I am lucky to have great friends in my life, but maybe there is some flaw in my nature only, that I am incapable of doing this. Also, I think, why should I bother someone else if ‘I’ am not feeling good today, I shall fix everything on my own. (this is a good trait or a bad one, still to figure out). But, this ‘I’ needs someone – a living being or a non-living one. What I mean to say, you’ll understand in the next few lines.

“In the midst of winter, I found there was, within me an invincible summer”

~ Albert Camus (French Author and Philosopher)

“Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things. And no good thing ever dies”

~ Tim Robbins in The Shawshank Redemption

Everyone faces failures in their lives. Sometimes it feels like it’s enough! Did I choose the right path? Had I decided to do something else, would things have been better? I can’t take this anymore, I need a break from all this and myriad different thoughts. And as we enter the real world, the frequency of these thoughts increases.

Thus, whenever I go through a bad phase, feel lost, don’t want to talk to anybody, feel the absence of that self-motivation; my white little diary comes to my rescue. I just take this diary of mine and go through it, read it again and again. These words inspire me, help me to regain my self-confidence, remind me that all this is a very small part of a long journey and I still have miles to go! Though, they don’t always tell me, what I want to know, they reveal what I ought to know. They remind me that ‘the show must go on’.

And these words come from diverse fields – from poets to entrepreneurs, from philosophers to showbiz celebrities, from movies to lyrics of a song, from great writers to Calvin & Hobbes.

“To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment”

~ Ralph Waldo Emerson (American Essayist and Poet)

Everyone has their own way of dealing with not-so-good phases in life, this is MINE. For I believe, ‘Words have power to destroy and heal’.

Here, is my all time favorite (there has to be a Bollywood touch, in all my posts).

Zindagi k ant me sab accha hota hai..aur agar accha nhi hai..to wo ant nhi hai. Picture abhi baaki hai mere dost!” ~ Shah Rukh Khan in Om Shanti Om

I have also added ‘To-do-list’, ‘Dates to remember’, ‘Moments to be cherished always’, and Photographs of my family and friends in my little diary. Whenever I turn its pages, it never fails to bring a smile on my face!

This is my first blog, not even close to the ones I follow; but everyone starts somewhere and I have taken that first step. Please share your views and suggestions in the comments and do let me know, what dispenses enthusiasm and motivation, in you!?

  1. An absolute killer from Calvin there.
This is something that you have written. Giving psyche and state of mind a visible medium here.

  4. It’s really well written for a first Vibs (:-p)… And a good context to start as well – your capacity to be independent in dealing with your life is something many would crave for… So its a thing to value for sure.
I couldn’t find anything to be critical of here, since you asked me – the quotes are wonderful as well.
After reading this I’m sure you will write more and well. So just keep me in loop 😉

  5. Now when you have mentioned the to-do list, there is a lot on my “bucket list”. There is so much to learn, to see and to relish and what drives is the feeling of awesomeness I feel when I accomplish them. Reading about that “white diary” of yours has made me think it would be good way to have a friend while sulking. 😛
This Blog has indeed rekindled my desire of “Long time dormant plan of” writing a blog. 🙂
Talking about the blog, beautifully- crafted piece of writing Vibs. Looking forward to see more good work from you. 🙂

  6. Thanks Vibhooti. I needed to read something like this today. Had I had a white diary, this blog would go in it. I am writing this comment from a hotel in Los Angeles, tucked inside my blankets, feeling all warm and soothed in my head 🙂
    Staying tuned to this space.
